Mika Gieres
Born in Luxembourg in 2004, Mika Gieres is a Luxembourgish flutist currently studying with Priv.-Doz.in Britta Bauer at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. For the 2026/27 season, he was selected for an internship position with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. Since the beginning of 2025, he has also been studying law at the FernUniversität in Hagen.
After two years of recorder lessons in André Dziezuk’s class, Mika began his first flute lessons with Carine Forget in 2012. From 2016 onwards, he studied with Carlo Jans at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg. There, he received the First Prize with distinction in 2020, the Higher Diploma in 2022, and completed his Concert Diploma in 2024 with the distinction “unanimously and with congratulations from the jury”. In 2023, he completed his final year at the Athénée de Luxembourg, specializing in music (“1ière F”).
In 2021, he received the First Prize with distinction in chamber music in the class of Stéphane Giampellegrini, and in 2022 the First Prize in piccolo in the class of Carlo Jans.
Alongside the flute, Mika has studied piano since 2012. In 2014, he entered Béatrice Rauchs’ class at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg, where he received the First Prize in piano in 2022. In 2023, he also received the First Prize in piano accompaniment in the class of Katrin Reifenrath. At the University Mozarteum Salzburg, he continues to study piano with Biliana Tzinlikova.
His broader musical education includes score reading, music theory, music analysis, harmony, and arranging. In 2020, he received the lower qualification in score reading. In 2017, he received the First Prize in music theory in the class of Nadja Burdot-Koob, followed in 2022 by the Higher Diploma with distinction (“prix supérieur avec distinction”) in the class of Carine Weinand. In 2020, he also received the First Prize in music analysis in Claude Lenners’ class, and in 2021 the final diploma of the lower degree in harmony in Iván Boumans’ class. He has further developed these skills as part of his studies at the University Mozarteum Salzburg.
A particular focus of Mika’s artistic work lies in arranging. He has arranged an extensive selection of works for the ensemble formation of flute, voice, and piano. In addition, he has been the arranger of the Bella Musica Ensemble of the University Mozarteum Salzburg for three years.
Mika regularly takes part in masterclasses for flute and piano, which have allowed him to broaden his musical horizon and work with internationally renowned musicians. [Details below. More info here]
As a flutist, Mika has performed with various orchestras and ensembles, including the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre National des Jeunes du Luxembourg, Estro Armonico, the Luxembourg Military Band, and the Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg, where he appeared as principal flutist.
He has been successful in several competitions. In 2024, he was a final-round participant at the Moyse International Flute Competition and received the gold medal at the Concours Jeunes Solistes du Luxembourg in 2021. As a pianist, he was awarded second prize at the Prix Golden Keys in 2020.
As a musician, Mika performs regularly with his brother Max Gieres as the Gieres Brothers, as well as with Max Gieres and Felicitas Zähringer as Trio Delux. Concert halls and venues in which he has performed include the Felsenreitschule, the Stiftung Mozarteum, and the Philharmonie Luxembourg, among others.
Since 2026, Mika Gieres has served as First Vice-Chair of the Students’ Union at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. In this role, he is particularly committed to student participation, transparent communication, and the stronger involvement of students in university decision-making processes.
Between 2023 and 2026, Mika Gieres worked as a student assistant in event management at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. In this role, he was involved in projects and events such as the International Mozart Competition 2026, ARCO 2024, and EXPO 2025 – Austrian Pavilion.
Mika Gieres, geboren 2004 in Luxemburg, studiert Querflöte bei Priv.-Doz.in Britta Bauer an der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. Neben seiner musikalischen Ausbildung studiert er seit Anfang 2025 Rechtswissenschaft (EJP) an der FernUniversität in Hagen.
Nachdem er zwei Jahre Unterricht in Blockflöte bei André Dziezuk erhalten hatte, nahm Mika Gieres 2012 seinen ersten Unterricht in Querflöte bei Carine Forget. Seit 2016 war er in der Klasse von Carlo Jans am Musikkonservatorium der Stadt Luxemburg eingeschrieben. Dort erhielt er 2020 den Ersten Preis mit Auszeichnung, 2022 das Diplôme Supérieur und schloss 2024 sein Konzertdiplom mit der Auszeichnung „einstimmig und mit Glückwünschen der Jury“ ab. 2023 bestand er das Abitur am Lycée Athénée du Luxembourg mit der Spezialisierung Musik („1ière F“).
2021 erhielt er den Ersten Preis mit Auszeichnung in Kammermusik in der Klasse von Stéphane Giampellegrini, 2022 den Ersten Preis im Fach Piccolo in der Klasse von Carlo Jans. 2020 schloss er außerdem das Diplom der Unterstufe im Fach Vom-Blatt-Lesen ab.
Neben der Querflöte erhält Mika seit 2012 auch Klavierunterricht. Seit 2014 war er in der Klasse von Béatrice Rauchs am Musikkonservatorium der Stadt Luxemburg eingeschrieben, wo er 2022 den Ersten Preis im Fach Klavier erhielt. 2023 erhielt er außerdem den Ersten Preis in Klavierbegleitung in der Klasse von Katrin Reifenrath. An der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg setzt er seine pianistische Ausbildung derzeit bei Biliana Tzinlikova fort.

Ein besonderes Interesse gilt Mika Gieres der Arrangement-Arbeit. Er arrangierte eine umfangreiche Auswahl an Werken für die Besetzung Querflöte, Gesang und Klavier. Zudem ist er seit drei Jahren Arrangeur des Bella Musica Ensembles der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg.
Mika nimmt regelmäßig an Meisterkursen für Flöte und Klavier teil, die ihm ermöglichen, seinen musikalischen Horizont zu erweitern und mit international renommierten Musikerinnen und Musikern zu arbeiten. [Details unten. Mehr Infos hier]
Als Flötist spielte Mika Gieres unter anderem mit dem Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, dem Luxemburger Kammermusikorchester, dem Orchestre National des Jeunes du Luxembourg, Estro Armonico, der Luxemburger Militärmusik und dem Schülersymphonieorchester des Musikkonservatoriums der Stadt Luxemburg, in dem er als Solo-Flötist auftrat.
Er war Preisträger verschiedener Wettbewerbe. 2024 nahm er an der Finalrunde der Moyse International Flute Competition teil, 2021 erhielt er die Goldmedaille beim Concours Jeunes Solistes du Luxembourg. Als Pianist wurde er 2020 mit dem 2. Preis beim Prix Golden Keys ausgezeichnet.
Künstlerisch tritt Mika Gieres unter anderem gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder Max Gieres als Gieres Brothers sowie mit Max Gieres und Felicitas Zähringer im Trio Delux auf. Zu den Konzerthäusern und Spielstätten, in denen er bereits spielte, zählen unter anderem die Felsenreitschule, die Stiftung Mozarteum und die Philharmonie Luxemburg.
Seit 2026 ist Mika Gieres 1. stellvertretender Vorsitzender der ÖH Mozarteum. In dieser Funktion setzt er sich insbesondere für studentische Mitbestimmung, transparente Kommunikation und die stärkere Einbindung von Studierenden in universitäre Entscheidungsprozesse ein.
Zwischen 2023 und 2026 war Mika Gieres als studentischer Mitarbeiter im Veranstaltungsmanagement der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg tätig. In diesem Rahmen wirkte er unter anderem an Projekten und Veranstaltungen wie dem Internationalen Mozartwettbewerb 2026, ARCO 2024 und EXPO 2025 – Austrian Pavilion mit.

He perfected his piano playing with Marie-Paule Cornia (B), Georg Steinschaden (A), Isabel Gabbe (D), Benjamin Kammerer (D) and Joseph Moog (DE).
He deepened his chamber music experience with Bijan Khadem-Missagh (A).
